Background & the Label
The highly regarded Landsdale Vineyard is located in the heart of
Mount Barker and situated on the property are fresh water sources
containing the native West Australian marron (freshwater lobster).
A striking and almost surreal breed of iridescent blue marron is known
to have originated in the area and forms a unique and alluring part
of the region’s history. This ‘story’ is featured
on the Landsdale label. Winemaking &
Viticulture
The Landsdale brand is the entry-level brand for West Cape Howe winery.
The philosophy of the Landsdale brand is to produce, fresh, fruit-driven
styles which exhibit typical Mount Barker regional character and offer
exceptional value and quality.
Rob Quenby, Viticulturalist, grew up in Western Australia and has
come from a family farming background. He completed his tertiary education
at Curtin University where he received a Bachelor of Business Agriculture
and has had significant experience managing broad acre farms and vineyards
throughout Western Australia. Rob has worked at Landsdale for the
past eleven years and also manages many other well developed contract
vineyards within the Great Southern region. The
Vineyard
The 14 year old Landsdale Vineyard is located in the renowned premium
grape growing region of Mount Barker in the Great Southern, Western
Australia. The vineyard is one of the oldest in the region and is
held in extremely high regard.
Landsdale Vineyard currently has 80 hectares under vine comprising
the grape varieties of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon
Blanc, Merlot, Riesling, and Cabernet Franc
The vineyard soil type is classified as gravely loam over clay and
the climate is cool which is conducive to the production of premium
quality fruit from the region. |
