Background
The picturesque Longview estate is located in historic Macclesfield
in the beautiful Adelaide Hills wine region, just 40 minutes drive
east of Adelaide. The vineyard is owned and operated by renowned businessman,
Duncan McGillivray, who was the pioneer of “Two Dogs”
alcoholic lemonade.
Duncan is incredibly passionate about the Longview brand and the Adelaide
Hills wine region, and through his positions on numerous boards including
the Hutt St Appeal, the Premiers Wine Council and the Premiers Food
Council, SA Great and the Port Power Football Club Foundation, he
proudly promotes Longview wines and the region as a whole.
The Vineyard
To maintain the natural beauty of the existing landscape, Longview
Vineyard implements ecologically sustainable techniques. The first
plantings of 100 acres were established in 1995. The Longview property
now comprises 220 acres of vineyard and 500 acres of cattle property.
The name Longview aptly describes this vineyard with its panoramic
views of the Coorong and Lake Alexandrina, and the spectacular scenic
vistas over the property itself and the surrounding countryside.
The Wines
The predominantly north-east facing slopes and valleys, combined with
the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills and the very best winemaking
practices, have produced outstanding vintages for Longview. All wines
are made from premium estate-sourced fruit. Varieties released so
far include Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay,
Viognier, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Zinfandel.
In a relatively short period of time Longview has achieved an amazing
number and caliber of awards/reviews.
