Background
In 1932 the Talijancich Family’s involvement with grape growing
and winemaking began, when the late Jim Talijancich purchased land
situated at the foothills of the Darling Ranges in the heart of the
Swan Valley, Western Australia. His son, Peter Talijancich, continued
the tradition in the late 1940s, soon realizing that the Swan Valley
was a special place to live and work. Blessed with rich fertile soil
and a Mediterranean climate, the region is capable of producing wines
of the highest quality, unique in style and character.
Today the region is renowned for producing some of the best fortified
wines in Australia. The Vineyard
The Talijancich Vineyard, being over 70 years old, has vines that
regularly produce fruit of amazing character and complexity. In addition,
the family’s 5 hectare vineyard has Demeter Bio-Dynamic Certification,
proof of the family’s ongoing commitment to the natural health
of the soils and the vines themselves.
Varieties produced include Chenin Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Verdelho,
Viognier, Grenache, Shiraz, Graciano, Muscadelle and Pedro Ximenes.
The Winemaker
James Talijancich represents the third generation in winemaking at
Talijancich. Many of the fortified wines still sold under the family’s
label were made by his late grandfather Jim and his father Peter.
Retiring in 1998, after completing 50 vintages, Peter Talijancich
still proudly looks over the winemaking process today.
According to James: “Our philosophy is simply based on an uncompromising
approach to quality. Combining three generations of tradition with
modern technology to create wines unique in style, reflecting our
passion for the Swan Valley Region, while maintaining that fine wines
can only be made from the finest vineyards.” |
